4 tips to choosing the right floor tile
Beginning a renovation is exciting and overwhelming when faced with all of the design possibilities. The Floor tiles need to be well thought out and selected carefully – especially if you are planning to live there for a while as they are usually selected first. Below are some of the things you’ll need to consider when searching for the perfect floor tile for your home.
1. Consider the size of the room
When re-tiling your room first and foremost it’s important to have the measurements ready. The size of the room isn’t only important for the dimensions but also the style of tile you want. For instance if it’s a larger room you’re renovating our range of 600 x 600 tiles could fit your space perfectly. However these have the potential to overwhelm a small space – luckily LifesTiles have a massive range of tiles from 450 x 450 and under.
2. Think about colours
One of the first questions you’ll be asked by one of our friendly staff is what colour do you have in mind for your tiles. Lighter colours help make the room appear bigger whereas larger rooms benefit from darker colours to give intimacy to the space. If you’re going for a statement, patterned tiles, wood look tiles, or concrete look tiles are the sure-fire way to capture the eye.
3. Consider the style of the house
What’s the overall style of your home? Contemporary? Country? Eclectic? Tile requirements by design vary widely so if you’re able to have a clear idea of exactly what you want to achieve then you’ll be miles ahead. Contemporary homes can have a sleek clean look with a stylish polished or honed porcelain. Country designs will feel like the perfect home with a timber look tile.
4. Select a tile for those that will be using the space
We find that the most popular choice for families with kids and pets are the floor tiles with a matt or lappato finish (not textured), with some movement on the face. These tiles will be more forgiving to marks and footprints. A clean white polished porcelain is best suited to a home with minimal foot traffic, it looks stunning but cleaning is required every couple of days. A dark brown, grey or black polished porcelain is a good choice for those who would like the high-end gloss floor look that is practical as well.
