Wear Ratings

You’ll often hear about tiles having a wear rating. Not all tiles are indestructible. It is important to get some advice when selecting your tiles to make sure they are suitable for your area.

Here’s how it works…

Rating 1

Tiles that have a glazed finish that will scratch easily. They are only suitable to put in an ensuite bathroom floor where you accept that they will show scratches over time. Definitely soft soled shoes or bare feet only.

Rating 2

Tiles that are suitable for bathrooms and light duty traffic in a home. Not suitable in rooms that have doorways leading to the outside, or kitchen floors. Soft soled shoes only on these.

Rating 3

Tiles that are ok to lay in light industrial areas. Kitchens, passage-ways etc. A mat should be used at doorways leading outside to remove scratching grit from shoes.

Rating 4

Tiles that are suitable for any residential area and light commercial use. Work rooms, sales rooms, restaurants and any room in the home.

Rating 5

Tough tiles, these ones. You can lay them any-where in a home or shopping mall or airport.

But, now you have read this, you didn’t need to. Just tell us a bit about the room you are tiling and we will let you know what tiles are suitable and which ones to keep clear of.

That’s what we are here for!
